The most common starting spot for an entry level employee. Ground Techs are in this position to learn the job through the use of on-the-ground training; including the sharpening of saws, roping techniques, operating and working around the various equipment, (boom truck, loader truck, chipper, chipper truck, fecon mower, stumper, etc.). Cutting as well as positioning and techniques used to make the job safer, and more efficient are staples of learning the trade.
Ground Techs typically move up at their own pace as some have more experience than others. Foremen will communicate with the supervisors as to goals and tasks mastered and accomplished on the job site and through training courses. Ground Techs are encouraged to be motivated towards learning and developing the skill set required to eventually make them an Operator or Foreman within the company. Safety and attention to detail will speed up the process, as will the initiative to garner a spray license, commercial driver's license (CDL), as well as the Electrical Hazard training, Aerial Rescue Training, & Line Voltage recognition testing.
